The pair then presented how they were able to purchase a home for Barbara’s son and how Trinity then provides support services.

The property was approved by HUD through the local housing authority and qualified for project based vouchers. With these vouchers, Harris Bank approved a mortgage and Barbara’s son’s Special Needs Trust own the house. Three additional residents live in the home and their rental payments go to the Trust from which the mortgage is paid. Since all of the residents are classified as mentally ill (MI), they are able to access funds from the Department of Human Services that go to Trinity Services which provides all of the necessary support services. Currently, there is money for MI supports, but there is no new money available if the individual’s diagnosis is developmentally delayed (DD).
