“I never thought this would happen to us”

Words spoken by family members who were unaware of a safety condition that
caused an injury or worse.

The DuPage Family Disability Network will host

Smart 911
John Mostaccio, Communications Manager, DU-COMM, DuPage County

Kala Considine, Communications Commander, Naperville

Safety
Soraya McLaughlin Public Education Specialist, Naperville

Safety is the biggest concern we have for our family members who have
disabilities.

Today more and more of our family members with challenges are accessing
the community and many of them carry cell phones. Whether they are at
work, home, at day program, or other social events our loved ones with
disabilities need safety tools and strategies that are straightforward and
intuitive.

DuPage County now has a national safety program for cell phone users.

It is called "Smart 911”

This is an add on for both DuPage County and Naperville to the already
enhanced 911. It affords Public Safety 911 Dispatchers much more
information about the caller who is in an emergency. Than what is
currently available.

Statistics tell us a majority of emergency calls are being made by cell
phones. This newest technology can let a dispatcher inform police
significant information about the caller.

DFDN will hear from both the city and county communications leaders as
well as a representative from the company that designed Smart 911.

It only works however, if we sign up.

Safety
Soraya McLaughlin is the Public Education Specialist for Naperville. She
will give tools to help us create safer environments inside and outside
our homes, CILAs for our family members with disabilities.

Make sure you register for this informative presentation.
